Sounds of the Remote Future (Suoni del Futuro Remoto) is a project for the Matera, the 2019 European Capital of Culture.
Sounds of the Remote Future presents the story of Matera to Europe, through the exploration of its acoustics, its sounds and its traditions. It is a cross-disciplinary project aimed at avant-garde research and production in the field of sound arts. In this expressive field, we want to understand different languages, from music, to sound installation, from live performance, to field recording and soundscaping works. The final product is a score for natural sounds written by Joe Johnson; performed by the Onyx Collective and Paolo Fresu.
The project tells of a particular corner of the southern Mediterranean which, through its peculiarities (landscape, history, nature, traditions, sounds and slowness), becomes a collective heritage. In this process, professionals from various areas of Europe and beyond participate in equal measure and become spokespersons for a process that can tell the past while looking to the future.
All compositions by Joe Johnson (except Lu Pastore - traditional)
